North Common
Amphitheater Project
A Canvas of Color Celebrating the Acre Community
Project Resumes September 30th
The North Common Amphitheater Project is a vibrant initiative that is repairing the cement structure and is replacing the incredible mural created 13 years ago by ACTION, Acre Coalition to Improve Our Neighborhood. Moving on to a new chapter, our public art project aims to uplift the community, transforming the aging mural project into a vibrant new space that continues to embody the rich tapestry of cultures in Acre of Lowell, Massachusetts. Through the lens of color theory, we aim not only to represent the diversity and cultural backgrounds of our residents but also to provide an educational opportunity for emerging artists. This project will ignite joy and foster a sense of belonging among the community, as we focus on visual elements that celebrate each unique culture without relying on text. The previous Welcome mural included 28 languages, and with the ever-growing ecosystem of Lowell, we now have 76 languages and growing, in order to be inclusive to all that are here and are to come we have decided to use color and symbolism to insure that no one feels left out of the conversation. The amphitheater serves as a crucial meeting place and event epicenter for the Acre community, and through this mural, we aspire to create an inviting space that encourages dialogue, connection, and shared experiences among all who gather here.
Artist Quest Nine
Artist Quest Nine was approached by Dave Ouellette, the founder of ACTION, to replace the iconic "Welcome Rainbow" mural, leading her to apply for ARPA grant funding to support the public art project at the North Common Amphitheater. Committed to community engagement, she collaborated with the CBA Coalition for a Better Acre Neighborhood Group and established a booth to gather valuable input through surveys on the upcoming mural. With a rich history of executing public art projects in Lowell, Massachusetts, Quest Nine is passionate about enhancing and beautifying the city while nurturing emerging artists in the area, thereby fostering a vibrant cultural landscape that resonates with the community.
